A return scan should move equipment to Returned, not immediately to Available. That control point prevents damaged, incomplete or non-compliant plant from being promised to the next customer.

Connect bookings to physical dispatch and return

A booking describes what the customer needs. Dispatch confirms exactly what left the yard. These are related but different records. Substitutions, partial fulfilment and last-minute changes are normal, so the system should preserve both the original requirement and the assets actually supplied.

Build PUWER inspection status into availability

The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998, commonly called PUWER, apply broadly to equipment provided for use at work, including equipment provided for hire. HSE says equipment exposed to conditions that can cause dangerous deterioration must be inspected at suitable intervals, with the result recorded and kept at least until the next inspection. Work equipment that requires inspection should not be used unless the inspection has taken place, and equipment moving between undertakings should carry physical evidence of the last inspection.[6][7]
